Posts on X (formerly Twitter) are often about timing: an announcement when your audience starts its day, a reminder an hour before an event. The right moment is rarely the moment you have time to write. Posty5's Social Media Publisher publishes and schedules posts to X, and both connecting an X account and publishing to X are available on the Pro plan or higher; see what the plans include.

Connect your X account

X is connected from the accounts page in Social Media Publisher, through X's own sign-in. On the Free and Starter plans the X option shows a Pro badge and its Connect button is disabled, and a request to publish to X from those plans is refused with the message "Publishing to X is available only on the Pro plan or higher." Once it is connected, add the X account to a workspace. A workspace groups accounts, so one post can reach X alongside your other platforms, each with its own settings.

What an X post can hold

X measures a post in weighted characters, and the limit is 280. Any link counts as 23, however long or short it is; most CJK characters and emoji count as 2; most other characters count as 1. So a 200-character sentence with one link uses 223 of the 280, and every emoji takes two.

• Text: up to 280 weighted characters.
• Images: up to 4. When an image post or carousel with more images goes to several platforms, X receives the first 4.
• Video: one video of up to 140 seconds.
• Hashtags from saved hashtag groups: at most 5 reach X; any that do not fit are dropped and reported.

When the X text block is empty, the composer fills it from the shared caption, cuts it at a word so it fits, and tells you what it shortened. If the cut loses the point, write a separate X version.

Polls, quoted posts and who can reply

A text post to X can carry a poll: 2 to 4 choices of up to 25 characters each, open for between 1 hour and 7 days. It can instead quote an existing post, which you give as an X post id or an x.com link. A post carries a poll or a quote, never both, and a poll only goes on a text post, not on one with images or a video.

The reply setting limits who can answer: Everyone, Accounts you follow, or Only accounts you mention. The narrower settings suit announcements and one-way updates where a long reply thread would get in the way.

Schedule a post on X step by step

1. Sign in to Posty5 on the Pro or Business plan, open Social Media Publisher and connect your X account.
2. Start a new post from the workspace or account that includes X, and choose the type: text, image or video.
3. Write the X text, or check the one filled in from the shared caption, and keep it within 280 weighted characters.
4. For a text post, add a poll or a quoted post if you want one. Choose who can reply.
5. Choose to publish now, or pick a date and time at least 5 minutes ahead, in the time zone on your Posty5 profile.
6. Create the post and open its status page to follow the X result.

Post to X and Threads at once

X and Threads both suit short text, so one announcement often goes to both. Select both accounts in one post and each gets its own text block and reply setting: 280 weighted characters for X, 500 characters for Threads. An empty block is filled from the shared caption and cut at a word to fit. Images go to both, with X taking the first 4; polls and quoted posts are X settings.

Monthly quota, rate limits and results

Posty5 publishes to X through one app-wide monthly quota, shared by everyone who publishes to X from Posty5. When that quota is spent, X targets fail with the message "X publishing quota for this month is exhausted", which means Posty5 cannot send more posts to X until the quota renews the following month. The other platforms in the same post keep their own status.

X also limits how quickly posts can be sent. When X answers with a rate-limit response (HTTP 429), Posty5 holds that X target until the reset time X gives and then retries it.

Once a post is published, its status page shows the engagement numbers X reports for it. Engagement numbers exist for X and Threads posts only; Posty5 has no cross-platform analytics report, does not suggest a best time to post and does not repeat posts on a schedule.
