Tracking and Returns for Dropshipped Orders in Posty5

A dropshipped order rarely arrives as one parcel. Items from your own shelf and items from a supplier travel separately, and items from two suppliers travel separately again. Posty5 keeps them as one order the shopper paid for once, and follows each parcel on its own.

One order, several parts

An order is split into parts: one for the items your store ships itself, and one for each supplier. The split is made at checkout from the products in the basket. The shopper still pays once, with one delivery fee.

Each part is tracked on its own

Each supplier part gets its own status and, once the supplier ships, its own carrier and tracking number. Posty5 picks these up from the supplier — through the supplier's notifications, or by checking open orders about every half hour — so you are not copying numbers by hand.

The order moves at the pace of its slowest part

The order as a whole is only as far along as its slowest part. It shows as shipped once every part has shipped, and as delivered once every part is delivered. Until then, the order list shows how many parts have shipped, so a part-shipped order is visible at a glance. See how store orders and tracking work.

What the shopper sees

On the tracking page the shopper sees one card per part, with its status, its items, its carrier and tracking link once there is one, and a delivery estimate while it is still being prepared. An order with a single part looks exactly as it always has.

Cancelling before and after the supplier ships

Cancelling an order before the supplier has shipped also withdraws the supplier order, where the supplier allows it — some suppliers only allow it before they confirm the order. Once a supplier has shipped, the order cannot be withdrawn; the part stops with a reason, and you handle it with the shopper as a return.

Returns and refunds

Returns to the supplier are not handled through Posty5 in this release. A returned item comes back through your store's usual returns, and you settle with the supplier yourself. Refunding your shopper and anything the supplier refunds to you are separate: a refund in your store does not change the supplier order, and a supplier's refund goes to your supplier account. Frequently asked questions

Why did my customer's order arrive in two parcels?

The items shipped from different places — your store and a supplier, or two suppliers — so each part travelled separately.

When does the order show as shipped?

When every part has shipped. Until then, the order shows how many parts have shipped.

Where do the supplier's tracking numbers come from?

From the supplier, picked up by Posty5 through notifications or by checking open orders about every half hour.

Can I cancel after the supplier has shipped?

Not at the supplier. Handle it with the shopper as a return.

Does Posty5 send returns back to the supplier?

No. Returns come back through your store, and you settle with the supplier yourself.
